Crime Family Miniseries Idea (for Boorman) Setting: An island state, with a drizzly climate. The interior of the island is a dense and uninhabited forest, while the shores are populated with modern homes and office buildings. The architecture has a slightly Mediterranean flair, but through a modern lens. There are buildings that look hundreds of years old tucked between modern-day strip malls and the like. Players: The island is run by an iron-fisted crime family. They hold the most wealth and power, and have the nicest homes on the island. Ideally, they'd be something of a combination of the Italian mob and the Yakuza -- lots of emphasis on honor and tradition, with rigid rules of conduct. The whole lot has a tendency to wear lots of black, fairly formal clothing, and they all carry excessive firearms. By and large, they are a stoic group. Outward signs of emotion are looked down upon, especially in public. Story: Some years ago, the head of the crime family had twins, a boy and a girl. Since only the boy would inheirit the leadership of the family, he and his sister were to be raised seperately. However, when they were separated for any length of time, both would become very cranky, and even physically ill. As a result, the pair were raised together, even though it broke with tradition. The girl was constantly reminded of her low status, though her brother and her father remained sympathetic. Her uncle, however, not only strongly disapproved of her being a part of the household, but also wanted to wrest the power away from his brother. Eventually, the boss falls ill and dies. His son, now in his late teens, is set to become the new boss. At the funeral, which takes place in a spartan white church on a grassy hill overlooking the ocean, the uncle stages his coup. Only the men of the family are allowed in the church, so the sister waits outside with a servant friend. Inside, the mourning brother is taken captive, and the uncle orders his men to kill the sister. They mistake the servant for her, though, and she manages to escape into the forest. Being separated starts to drive the twins mad. While the brother is being used as a puppet-leader by his uncle, the sister has to find a way to sneak back into the city, before the both of them die from the distance between them. |
